The Messarea Winery is located on the island of Tinos, more specifically in the village of Xinara. It is named “Messarea” after the Messaria region where the vineyards are located. Its approach is characterized by an emphasis on the local terroir, small vineyards, indigenous varieties, and a sustainable/bioclimatic winery. The name “Alkar” comes from the ancient Greek word “ἄλκαρ,” which means “bulwark.” The Potamisi grapes are harvested by hand. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks, without destemming, and the wine remains with the lees for nine months.
