Description

Brut Grand Cru Rose Egly Ouriet is a rose brut champagne, the result of blending Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties. Rouge, drawn from cask. A bouquet of roses and small red berries announces the wine’s subtle, delicate perfume. The mouth shows more red fruit with a smooth, almost buttery quality; the density and complexity here are unparalleled. White pepper and wet stones follow on a lengthy, lively finish. A superb rosé. You could pair it with seafood, oysters, salads, cold meat.

Egly- Ouriet produces wines that express the terroir of the area, champagne primarily from the noble Grand Cru village of Ambonnay (the top village for Pinot Noir in Champagne), where it is widely regarded as the finest grower. In total, the vineyard, where the vine’s average age is 40 years, covers around 10 hectares on the Grand Cru areas of Ambonnay, Bouzy, and Verzenay, with two thirds of Pinot Noir and the rest shared between Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. Depending on the harvest’s and the wine’s characteristics, Francis Egly, the current owner, varies the proportion of the barrels’ ages from 1 to 5 years since 1995, in which the wine is going to age in varying proportions, thus letting every terroir express itself, instead of following a steady recipe. There hasn’t been any malolactic fermentation since 1999, to preserve the wine’s freshness and the disgorging dates are mentioned on the back labels. On the contrary to Champagne, who sell its bottles younger and younger, Francis Egly, following his father Michel, patiently builds a treasure that allows him to sell his bruts after four years of aging, and his vintages after six years.
