The Prüm family has been producing wine in the wine-growing region of Mosel for several hundred years, but Joh. Jos. Prüm was founded in 1911 by Johann Josef Prüm. The estate was taken over by his brother Sebastian in 1920, the year that Johann Prüm created the first Auslese sweet wine which became one of Germany’s best known and highly respected wines. The Joh. Jos. Prüm has about 20 hectares (50 acres) of vines spread over several Erste Lage vineyards in Austria.
