The wine history of Passopisciaro begins in 2000 when Andrea Franchetti arrives at Etna and undertakes the restoration of the cellars and vineyards in the area. Passorosso is made from Nerello Mascalese grapes, which are grown in volcanic soil unique to this region. Today it is located at an altitude of about a thousand meters above the wine town of the same name in the Castiglione di Sicilia region. Passorosso has been designated Etna Rosso DOC.
