Description

The Mercouri Cava Estate is a blend from the Refosco and Mavrodaphne grape varieties. A red dry wine is the result of classic red vinification with selected yeasts, temperature control and aging for about a year and a half in French oak barrels. We detect aromas and flavors of red and black fruits like plum, notes of chocolate, tobacco, leather in harmony with the aromas that come from the barrel like vanilla and cinnamon. You could pair it with grilled white and red meats, game and hard cheeses.

Mercouri Estate is in the Western Peloponnese, between Katakolo, Pyrgos and Ancient Olympia. It is an old, large farm, with a history of 140 years in the production of wine, olive oil and Corinthian raisins. The foundation of the estate dates to the year 1864 and today is in the hands of the 4th generation of the Mercouri family. The way of vinification of the wines is determined by the type of wine that will be produced, by the type of grapes and the conditions of each year. The Estate grows and vinifies one of the oldest and most typical red varieties of Italy, with a focus on cultivation in the region of Friuli, which is cultivated in very small areas in our country. One of them is the area of Korakochori, Ilia, where it has been cultivated for 140 years by the Mercouri Estate, to such an extent that it is now considered as an indigenous variety in the area and is locally called “Mercureiko” or “Mercury”, as a result, the variety is synonymous with the winery.
